The Community Services Department provides recreation programming and human services to enrich the quality-of-life for Garden Grove residents and local community organizations. This is accomplished in a myriad of forms, including offering health, wellness, and leisure classes to all ages in parks and City facilities; youth and adult sports, aquatics, staging community-wide special and cultural events; and providing critical resources and support to underserved families.

There are Recreation Specialist II openings at the following sites and programs:
Salary $12.10 - $13.20 hourly
Recreation Specialists work with the site coordinator to plan, organize, implement, and supervise daily activities at a summer day camp designed for children ages 5-12 and counselors in training ages 13-17. They lead children in games, arts and crafts, and planned recreation activities, and may assist in supervising children during off-site excursions. Day Camp operates Monday - Friday from 6:45 a.m. - 6:15 p.m.
Youth and Family Resource Centers
The City operates two (2) Youth and Family Resource Centers. They provide resources, programs and services to youth and families. Recreation Specialists work with site coordinators to plan and organize daily recreational activities for youth, lead children in games, arts and crafts, and may assist in supervising children and teens during off-site excursions. The Youth & Family Resource Centers operate Monday - Thursday 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. with some evening hours, and Friday, Saturday, and Sunday as needed.
Atlantis Play Center
The Atlantis Play Center is a uniquely themed, enclosed play center for children and their parents. Atlantis Play Center staff are responsible for special events and activities, minor park maintenance, and supervision of snack bar, office, and splash pad area. The Atlantis Play Center operates Tuesday - Saturday from 9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and Sunday 11:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Recreation Specialists are responsible for officiating and/or score keeping youth sports for children in grades K - 8. Recreation Specialists monitor the daily operations of the Sports and Recreation Center and its activities and programs, including maintaining and preparing the fields in City parks. Recreation Specialists provide friendly customer service, establish and maintain good community relations, and ensure that center participants adhere to established rules and regulations. The Gym operates Monday - Sunday 6:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., and 3:00 p.m. - midnight.
Lifeguards are responsible for supervising the swimming pool and swimming pool deck, enforcing regulations, performing rescues, and performing minor janitorial and pool maintenance as needed.
Instructor Guards are responsible for providing swim instruction, supervising the pool, enforcing regulations, performing rescues, and performing minor janitorial and pool maintenance as needed.
Salary $13.60 - $15.30 hourly

Mandatory Training (if hired) - Thursday, May 30 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. & Saturday, June 1 from 8:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
