Clean California Medal of Honor Bike and Pedestrian Trail Project

The Clean California Medal of Honor Bike and Pedestrian Trail project is a beautification initiative to increase pedestrian and bicyclist activity along the Medal of Honor Bike and Pedestrian Trail.

The project includes the installation of 22 new pieces of outdoor fitness equipment, along with additional enhancements such as new trash receptacles, benches, bicycle racks, and more than 120,000 square feet of mulch throughout the trail.

The mulch installation supports the project's goals by:

  • Preventing water runoff and reducing flooding
  • Extending the lifespan of 363 recently planted trees and surrounding landscaping
  • Reducing the urban heat island effect

Background

In August 2024, the Garden Grove City Council conducted a community outreach effort to gather resident input on preferred fitness equipment for the trail. This feedback allowed staff to develop an installation plan that reflects community priorities.

In August 2025, the City Council approved the purchase of outdoor fitness equipment and site furnishings from Greenfields Outdoor Fitness, Inc. through the Sourcewell cooperative purchasing program. Installation of the equipment requires reinforced concrete foundations.

In February 2026, the City Council released a competitive Request for Proposals (RFP) to solicit a construction contractor to install the required concrete pads. SAVI Construction, Inc. was selected for the project.
