Garden Grove TV3 News Report: August 22, 2023

There's always something fun and exciting happening in Garden Grove. In this report, GGTV3 Reporter Breanna Greenup recaps the Magical State of the City presentation hosted by the Chamber of Commerce at Garden Grove's Hyatt Regency Hotel. Plus Garden Grove honors and appreciates our recent college graduates at a special reception just for them. And James Nguyen is a young man with a bright future. He was spotlighted at a Garden Grove City Council meeting after being named a Rise Global Winner for his cancer detecting toothbrush.

College Graduates' Reception in Garden Grove 2023

The City of Garden Grove appreciates and honors our college graduates. The City holds a special reception to recognize recent grads who live here. Each honoree received certificates, special gifts and took a photo with Garden Grove's Mayor and City Councilmembers. This year's event was emceed by Vicky Nguyen who was a previous college graduate from Garden Grove. GGTV3's Breanna Greenup has the story.

State of the City in Garden Grove News Story 2023

Garden Grove Mayor Steve Jones delivers a "magical" State of the City presentation to a full-house at the Hyatt Regency Orange County Hotel. World Class Magician, Johnny Ace Palmer was on hand to demonstrate some magic, but Mayor Jones credited talented staff, hard work and good planning for the magical success of the City in many areas. The event was hosted by the Garden Grove Chamber of Commerce. GGTV3 Reporter Breanna Greenup was there and has the story.

Community Encouraged to Attend Upcoming Public Hearing on Housing Strategy

The community is encouraged to attend the Garden Grove Planning Commission’s public hearing on Thursday, September 21, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. to review and recommend forwarding proposed updates to the adopted Housing Element to the Garden Grove City Council. The public hearing will be held at the Garden Grove Community Meeting Center, located at 11300 Stanford Avenue.

Garden Grove Police Department - September is Pedestrian Safety Month

September is Pedestrian Safety Month in California. The Garden Grove Police Department encourages everyone on our roads to care for one another and keep pedestrians safe from crashes and injuries.

Based on data projections from the Governors Highway Safety Association, 7,508 pedestrians were killed in traffic crashes in the U.S. in 2022, the highest number since 1981. In California, pedestrian deaths account for more than 25% of all traffic deaths.

Garden Grove Police Department - National Summer Mobilization

As the summer travel season wraps up, the Garden Grove Police Department reminds drivers to stay safe and be responsible by never driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

“The community’s well-being is our top priority, so we’re asking that if you know you’ll be out drinking, have a game plan for how to get home safely,” Garden Grove Police Chief Amir El-Farra said. “There is never a good excuse for driving after drinking or using drugs that impair.”

City Now Accepting Online Applications for Garden Grove Police Positions

The City of Garden Grove is now accepting online applications for sworn and non-sworn positions for the Garden Grove Police Department. The deadline to apply is Monday, September 25, 2023. To apply online, visit ggpd.org/join.

Seniors Invited to Resource Fair and Vaccine Clinic

Seniors are invited to attend the H. Louis Lake Senior Center’s Resource Fair and Vaccine Clinic on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., located at 11300 Stanford Avenue. Admission and parking are free.

Attendees will receive free giveaways from participating vendors, including CalOptima, Meals on Wheels Orange County, and more. Activities include opportunity drawings, music, and a free meal for the first 100 seniors registered.
