Medal of Honor Trail
In February 2024, as part of the City Transportation Program effort, the City Council adopted a resolution approving participation in the Clean California Local Grant Program (CCLGP) and authorized the appropriation of $441,000 in grant funds. The City committed to improving parks and pathways, with the ultimate goals of reducing litter, enhancing public health, and to benefiting underserved communities. The awarded funds will be used to install new outdoor fitness equipment, litter abatement signage, trail furniture, trash receptacles, bike racks on four concrete pads, and landscaping/mulch along the Medal of Honor Bike and Pedestrian Trail. These proposed amenities and enhancements are a direct response to public feedback and reflect community priorities for trail improvements.
In 2024, the City conducted community outreach for the installation of the new outdoor fitness equipment during its National Night Out event. Community members had the opportunity to give input on which equipment they want for the trail. This community outreach effort helped the city select outdoor fitness equipment in response to community members’ preferences. See attached image for reference.
In 2025, the City began develop a construction plan for concrete pads and purchasing selected equipment for the trail. See attachments for construction plan (pending final approval) and fitness equipment layouts.

From Vision to Tribute
In the heart of Garden Grove runs more than a mile of history, gratitude, and community spirit. What began as a bold idea to reimagine an unused rail corridor has transformed into the Medal of Honor Bike & Pedestrian Trail—a living memorial to our nation’s bravest.
Lined with trees, shaded rest areas, and spaces for reflection, the trail honors the extraordinary courage of Garden Grove’s own Medal of Honor recipients.
This is more than a pathway—it’s a ribbon of connection through our city. A place where residents and visitors can move, gather, and remember. Where the vision of a greener, healthier, and more united Garden Grove has grown into a lasting tribute—rooted in our past, thriving in our present, and inspiring our future.
