2022 General Election Important Dates for Candidates

July 18 – August 12, 2022

NOMINATION PERIOD
Between these dates, candidates may obtain nomination materials and file documents with the City Clerk (Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., by appointment). To setup an appointment, email the City Clerk’s Office at cityclerk@ggcity.org.

*August 13 – 17, 2022

EXTENDED CANDIDATE FILING PERIOD
* Filing is extended if an incumbent eligible for re-election does not file for re-election prior to 5:00 p.m. on August 12, 2022. Incumbents are not eligible to file during the extended period.

August 18, 2022

RANDOMIZED ALPHABET DRAWING
Secretary of State to conduct a random alpha draw to determine the order of candidate’s name on the ballot.

August 13 – 23, 2022

PUBLIC EXAMINATION PERIOD
Public review period for the candidate statements and ballot designations.

Nomination Paper – Public access to this document shall be limited to viewing the document only. The public may not copy or distribute copies of documents that contain signatures of voters. (E.C. Section 17100)

September 12 – October 25, 2022

FILING PERIOD FOR WRITE-IN CANDIDATES
*Candidate name will not be printed on the ballot*
Write-in candidates may obtain nomination materials and file documents with the City Clerk

15-DAY VOTER REGISTRATION DEADLINE FOR THE NOVEMBER 2022 ELECTION
* Conditional voter registration extends the 15-day registration deadline, allowing voters to register and vote provisionally 14 days prior to an election and on Election Day. Visit the Orange County Registrar of Voters website at https://ocvote.gov/.
