Student Exchange Program Brings South Korean High School Students to Garden Grove
The City of Garden Grove is pleased to welcome 10 high school students from Anyang, Republic of Korea, as part of the Sister City Association of Garden Grove’s Student Exchange Program. The students will arrive on Saturday, January 11, 2025 to begin a 9-day stay in Garden Grove with local host families.
During their stay, the students will meet Garden Grove Mayor Stephanie Klopfenstein and the Garden Grove City Council, tour Garden Grove Unified School District high schools, and visit areas of interest in Orange County and Los Angeles.
City Hall Closed, Emergency Services Available During Holiday Closure
In observance of the Christmas and New Year’s Day holidays, Garden Grove City Hall will be closed from Wednesday, December 25, 2024 through Wednesday, January 1, 2025. The H. Louis Lake Senior Center and Magnolia Park Family Resource Center will be closed from Tuesday, December 24, 2024 through Wednesday, January 1, 2025.
Garden Grove Police Department - National Winter DUI Mobilization
The holiday season can be dangerous for people on the roads. In December 2022 alone, 1,062 people were killed in the U.S. in alcohol-impaired- driving crashes, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Application Period for Home Repair Grants Ends Monday
The application period for the City of Garden Grove’s Home Repair Program closes on Monday, December 16, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. The grant program assists qualified low-income Garden Grove residents receive up to $5,000 for minor home improvements. These grants do not need to be repaid to the City, however, the homeowner is required to contribute a minimum of $500 of their own funds towards the repairs. Major repairs above $5,000 will not be considered for the program.
DUI Checkpoint on December 20
On December 20, the Garden Grove Police Department will conduct a driving under the influence (DUI) Checkpoint from 9:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. at an undisclosed location.
DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on data showing incidents of impaired driving-related crashes. The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints are to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off the road.
