Rev Up Safety: May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month
During Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month in May, the Garden Grove Police Department would like to remind drivers to always look twice for motorcycles. By practicing safe driving habits and taking shared responsibility on our roads, we can help everyone arrive at their destination safely.
Garden Grove Police Department Holding DUI Checkpoint
On May 17, the Garden Grove Police Department will conduct a California driver’s license and driving under the influence (DUI) Checkpoint from 9:00 p.m. until 3:00 a.m. at an undisclosed location within the city of Garden Grove.
CDL/DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on data showing incidents of impaired driving-related crashes and arrests. The primary purpose of CDL/DUI checkpoints are to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off the road.
Vote for Garden Grove's Best-Looking Front Yards
Now through Sunday, May 19, the public is encouraged to vote for their favorite Garden Grove front yards nominated during the home beautification program, Garden Grove Gems. To vote, visit www.ggcity.org/gems.
The home’s front yards will be categorized by their respective Garden Grove voting districts, for a total of six districts. The public will vote for their favorite front yard for each district.
City Now Accepting Online Applications for Garden Grove Police Positions
The City of Garden Grove is now accepting online applications for sworn positions with the Garden Grove Police Department. The deadline to apply is Monday, May 13, 2024. To apply online, visit www.ggpd.org/join.

Garden Grove residents graduating from a college or university this year are invited to attend the annual Garden Grove College Graduates’ Reception on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 and be entered into opportunity drawings for cash prizes. The deadline to submit information online for the free event is Monday, June 3 at www.ggcity.org/grads.
Celebrate Cinco de Mayo Responsibly
The Garden Grove Police Department encourages the public to celebrate Cinco de Mayo responsibly by planning ahead and designating a sober driver.
On May 5, the Garden Grove Police Department will have additional officers on patrol looking for drivers suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
“Don’t put yourself and others on the road at risk by driving impaired,” Garden Grove Police Chief Amir El-Farra said. “If you’re planning to celebrate with a drink or two, leave your keys at home and designate a sober driver.”
Garden Grove to Participate in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day
On Saturday, April 27, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., the Garden Grove Police Department will participate in the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. The event gives the public an opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs. Bring your pills for disposal to the Garden Grove Police Department, located at 11301 Acacia Parkway, Garden Grove 92842.
Community Celebrates Dedication of New Playground at Magnolia Park
On Tuesday, April 9, 2024, the City of Garden Grove and community celebrated the opening of a new citrus farm-themed playground at Magnolia Park, located at 11402 Magnolia Street. Hundreds of community members—including descendants of the original landowners, the Wakeham family—enjoyed a ribbon-cutting ceremony, themed giveaways, and treats.
New Awareness Campaign to ‘Plan-Build-Beautify’ Properties Kicks Off with Social Media Giveaway
Today, the City of Garden Grove launches a new 3-month, multi-language awareness campaign, highlighting information and services from the Community Development Department’s Planning, Building and Safety, and Code Enforcement divisions. Themed “Plan–Build–Beautify,” the campaign kicks off with a social media giveaway to win a 48-quart Igloo cooler, $10 Home Depot gift card, and DIY and City items.
California Mosquito Awareness Week: Time to Dump and Drain
Garden Grove, Calif. – Heavy rainfall this year has deposited substantial amounts of standing water throughout Orange County. As temperatures rise, stagnant water can become prime breeding grounds for disease-carrying mosquitoes. Invasive Aedes aegypti mosquitoes – also known as “ankle biters” – are now well-established in Orange County, and experts are concerned that we could face a lengthy and difficult mosquito season.
