As July 4 approaches, the City of Garden Grove, in collaboration with the Garden Grove Police Department and Orange County Fire Authority, reminds the community to take necessary precautions to ensure a safe and memorable celebration. Only safe and sane fireworks bearing the California State Fire Marshal seal may be discharged in Garden Grove on July 4, from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., on private property only.

Garden Grove youth, ages 5 to 12, are invited to register for the 2024 “Camp Grove: Fun Under the Sun” day camp, a 9-week summer program filled with outdoor activities and excursions. The program runs June 10 through August 9, Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., at Edgar Park, located at 12781 Topaz Street. Camp weeks are limited to a first-come, first-served basis, with some weeks nearly or already sold out. To register, visit ggcity.org/daycamp.

The City of Garden Grove is seeking a qualified candidate to fill one opening on the Planning Commission by serving as a non-compensated commissioner. Applicants must be and remain a Garden Grove resident and a registered voter until the term expires in December 2024. To apply online, visit ggcity.org/city-clerk/applications, or visit the City Clerk’s Office, located on the 2nd floor of Garden Grove City Hall, at 11222 Acacia Parkway. The deadline to apply is Friday, July 5, 2024 at 5:00 p.m.

The Garden Grove Community Foundation is looking for vocally talented local high school students to compete in the 12th annual The Voice of Garden Grove singing competition for a chance to win $500 and the title “The Voice of Garden Grove 2024.” Another $500 will be donated towards the winning student’s high school choir.

The City of Garden Grove will hold the 2024 Homebuyer Day event on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at the Garden Grove Community Meeting Center, at 11300 Stanford Avenue. A resource fair will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with mortgage lenders, community housing organizations, and real estate agents providing a variety of resources and information related to becoming a home owner. The event is for anyone interested in learning more about down payment assistance, understanding the home buying process, credit readiness, financing, and more.

The community is invited to attend the virtual Garden Grove Fair Housing Workshop, hosted by the Fair Housing Foundation.

The City of Garden Grove honors and will never forget six Officers who gave their lives protecting the City. Sergeant Myron L. Trapp, Officer Andy Reese, Officer Donald F. Reed, Officer Michael Rainford, Master Officer Howard Dallies Jr., and Lieutenant John Reynolds made the ultimate sacrifice. Hundreds of people came out to join the Garden Grove Police Department and the City honoring these men and their families.

Let's just say there are a lot of amazing things happening in the City of Garden Grove. We respect and learn from our past, work hard with passion and great leadership today, to make a better future for those who live, work and invest here. It's not just a new playground, big development, or respite for those less fortunate, it's an attitude of making something better every day.

The City of Garden Grove is seeking the community’s input in determining how federal funds will be used in housing, community development, and infrastructure projects. Community workshops will be held on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at 6:00 p.m., in the Garden Grove Community Meeting Center Constitution Room, at 11300 Stanford Avenue; and on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at 6:00 p.m., at the Buena Clinton Family Resource Center, at 12661 Sunswept Avenue. The public is strongly encouraged to attend either workshop.

Beginning Friday, May 24 through Monday, May 27, 2024, the 64th Annual Garden Grove Strawberry Festival will take place at Village Green Park, located at 12732 Main Street. During the 4-day event, heavy traffic is anticipated in the immediate area. Motorists are asked to plan accordingly to avoid delays.

Main Street, north of Acacia Parkway, will be closed from Thursday, May 23 through Tuesday, May 28, 2024.
