Headlines: Be Well OC in Garden Grove

When people and organizations work together, great things can happen. In this Headlines, Mayor Steve Jones, on behalf of the Garden Grove City Council, shares the news about a new partnership between the City and Be Well OC. The idea is to help those in need while allowing the Garden Grove Police Department to do their work. A mobile response unit in a well equipped blue van will help people dealing with mental illness, addiction and homelessness.

Garden Grove Police Department's New Officers

The Garden Grove Police Department added three new Officers to their ranks. They graduated from the Orange County Sheriff's Department Academy in Class 244. Two of the men came up through the Department's Explorer and Cadet programs, the other brings two decades of experience in the U.S. Marines. They were sworn-in and had their badges pinned in a ceremony at Garden Grove's Community Meeting Center. GGTV3 Reporter Arti Nehru has the details.

What can you say about a Garden Grove organization that is a safe haven and has helped over than 25,000 people in need? If you didn't have the words, maybe you would want to portray it in a large colorful mosaic. Garden Grove's Pacifica High School Dedicates New Gym

Garden Grove's Pacifica High School is steeped in history. So, when Mike Buenafe sank the first basket in the Mariners' brand new gymnasium recently, there was something special about it. You see, Mike's dad, Jeff Buenafe made the first shot 56-years-ago in the school's original gym. In those days, Jeff's father, Dr. Albert Buenafe was Principal at the new West Garden Grove High School. Mike is the Freshman Basketball Coach as well as a Teacher at Pacifica. A number of Buenafe's are shaping future history with their work in the Garden Grove Unified School District.

Rose River Memorial In Garden Grove

The Rose River Memorial is an art display of felt roses lead by artist Marcos Lutyens and brought to Garden Grove by the OC Autism Foundation and the Christ Cathedral. Each rose represents a person who lost their life to the COVID-19 Virus. One of the people represented with a rose is Garden Grove Police Lieutenant John Reynolds. The Memorial has moved on to be displayed in Washington DC. GGTV3 reporter Breanna Greenup has the story.

2021 Garden Grove State Of The City

It has been an interesting year, and we're only about halfway through. The Garden Grove Chamber of Commerce hosts the 2021 State of the City. Mayor Steve Jones stands on the stage at Garden Grove's historic Gem Theater and talks about some of what the City has been through, a lot of people who have stepped-up during tough times and the road ahead. In the presentation are videos on the Foods of Garden Grove and some of the heroes who went the extra mile in Garden Grove Strong.

Garden Grove Strong 2021

When disaster hits, these are the people running toward the problem, looking to see how they can help. From Garden Grove Police to the Orange County Fire Authority, first responders, doctors, nurses and Public Works employees went above and beyond the call of duty during this Pandemic. Individuals and small groups stepped-up also and made face shields, donated meals, home necessities and PPE to others who needed them. These and many others, too numerous to mention, are every day heroes. They are Garden Grove Strong.
