Garden Grove Police Department Holding DUI Checkpoint
The Garden Grove Police Department will conduct a driving under the influence (DUI) Checkpoint on August 18, 2023, from 9:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. at an undisclosed location.
DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on data showing incidents of impaired driving-related crashes. The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints are to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off the road.
Public Encouraged to Attend Study Sessions on Community Housing Strategy
The public is encouraged to attend Garden Grove study sessions to learn about the revised draft of the adopted 2021-2029 Housing Element, a community housing strategy which establishes programs, policies, and actions to meet the existing and projected housing needs in Garden Grove. The Garden Grove Planning Commission Study Session is on Thursday, August 17, 2023 at 7:00 p.m., and the Garden Grove City Council Study Session is on Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at 6:30 p.m. Both public meetings will be held at the Garden Grove Community Meeting Center, located at 11300 Stanford Avenue.

City Seeking Developer for Garden Grove Civic Center Revitalization Project
The City of Garden Grove is seeking statements of qualification from development teams to begin the procurement process for the Garden Grove Civic Center Revitalization project. Through the Request for Qualification (RFQ), a development team will be selected to design, build, and finance the project which includes a new Garden Grove Police Department public safety facility, parking structure, and park area and amenities. The deadline to apply is Monday, August 28, 2023.
City Announces Continuation of JOBS 1st Program to Support Local Businesses, Job Creation
The City of Garden Grove announces the continuation of the JOBS 1st program, providing eligible businesses with zero-interest loans of up to $50,000 and grants of up to $25,000. Qualifying local establishments can apply for the JOBS 1st program at ggcity.org/neighborhood-improvement/jobs-1st.
Free Outdoor Movie Series Continues with Topgun: Maverick
The community is invited to an evening under the stars with a free movie in the park, on Friday, August 11, in Garden Grove Park, at 9301 Westminster Blvd. The featured movie, Topgun: Maverick, begins at 8:30 p.m. The 40-foot screen will be set up near the large picnic pavilion. Gates open at 7:30 p.m.
Kettle corn, ice cream, shaved ice, and lemonade will be available for purchase from local food vendor C&M Ohana. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets.
New Economic Development Director Named
Garden Grove City Manager Lisa Kim has named Ursula Luna-Reynosa as Garden Grove’s new Economic Development Director. Luna-Reynosa, a 24-year professional in community and economic development, most recently served as Community Development Director for the City of Huntington Beach. She begins her new position with the City of Garden Grove on Monday, August 21, 2023.
