City Promotes Safe and Sane Firework Use, Warnings of Increased Patrol
As July 4 approaches, the City of Garden Grove, in collaboration with the Garden Grove Police Department and Orange County Fire Authority, reminds the community to take necessary precautions to ensure a safe and memorable celebration. Only safe and sane fireworks bearing the California State Fire Marshal seal may be discharged in Garden Grove on July 4, from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., on private property only.
Through July 4, the Garden Grove Police Department will deploy additional police patrols to identify violators of the City’s municipal code on fireworks. Individuals caught using or possessing illegal fireworks, or misusing or tampering with legal ones, will be cited a $1,000 administrative fine. Multiple fines will be issued for repeat violators.
To report illegal fireworks, call the Garden Grove Police Department’s non-emergency number at (714) 741-5704. Be prepared to provide the address where the illegal fireworks were lit and a description of the individual(s) involved.

City parks will be closed by 5:00 p.m. on July 4, including tennis and handball courts, with park sprinklers activated.
Garden Grove Animal Care Services will continue to operate on a normal daily basis through the July 4 weekend. In 2024, the Garden Grove Police Department issued 29 $1,000 administrative citations, and received 153 firework-related service calls on July 4, and 225 firework-related calls from July 1 through July 5, 2024.
