Help At Your Door

The Garden Grove Fire Department has developed a special assistance program designed to help residents with disabilities and other special needs during a disaster.

During a declared disaster, a member of the Garden Grove Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) will be sent to check on individuals registered in the program and provide assistance if necessary.

CERT members are volunteers, specially trained in the areas of disaster operations.

Registration in the program is free. Access to your information is limited to only the Garden Grove Fire and Police Departments.

Registration is open to anyone with a disability or special need who lives in the city of Garden Grove.

This service is for assistance only. If you have a life-threatening emergency, you should call 9-1-1 immediately.

Program Goal

The goal of the program is to put evacuation plan strategies into place that are designed specifically for the disabled and special needs community.

This program was developed with input from the disability community.

It covers the five general categories of disability: mobility, visual, hearing, speech, and cognitive;

and four elements of evacuation: notification, way-finding, use of the way, and assistance.
