During National Child Passenger Safety Week, the Garden Grove Police Department will help parents and caregivers with installing child safety seats by providing a Child Seat Check Day on Wednesday, September 28 at the Garden Grove Police Department, 11300 Acacia Parkway, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., by appointment only.

“We are here to offer parents and caregivers guidance and reassurances that their child is safe in a car seat while riding in the car,” Garden Grove Police Chief Tom Daré said.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), nearly half of car seats (46%) are misused.

California law requires all children under 2 years old to ride in a rear-facing car seat, unless the child is 40 or more pounds or is 40 or more inches tall. Parents are encouraged to keep their child in rear and forward-facing seats if possible. Children 8 and older, who are at least 4 feet, 9 inches in height, may ride in the back seat of a vehicle in a properly fitted safety belt.

To schedule an appointment and to learn more about the Garden Grove Police Department child safety seat program, contact the Community Liaison Manager Kelly Huynh at (714) 741-5760 or via email at kellyh@ggcity.org.
