David Dent
Interim Community Development Director

David Dent is the Interim Community Development Director for the City of Garden Grove, where he oversees the City's Planning Services, Building and Safety, Code Enforcement, and Permit Services. With more than 25 years of experience in architecture, planning, building and safety, code enforcement, and community development, David provides leadership on a wide range of development initiatives while focusing on customer service, innovation, and operational excellence.

Prior to becoming Interim Community Development Director, David served as the City's Deputy Community Development Director and Chief Building Official. Throughout his career, he has held progressively responsible leadership positions with agencies that include, Chief Building Official for the City of Compton, and Supervising Plan Review Specialist, Senior Building Inspector, and Code Enforcement Officer for the City of San Diego. His diverse background provides a comprehensive understanding of the development process, from planning and entitlement through construction and occupancy.

Outside of work, David enjoys architecture, distance running, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
