Request #3214

PUBLIC

November 6th, 2017

Dear Chief Elgin,

I am a Data Outreach Associate at Measures for Justice. MFJ is a non-profit organization dedicated to studying the delivery of criminal justice services at the county-level. MFJ has measured several states and is conducting research in California, funded by grants from Google.org and the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative. This letter serves as a records request. This request is for non-commercial purposes.

We can provide you with examples from other counties, work directly with your vendor, or modify our request based on your agency’s technological and/or personnel limitations. We have obtained similar data from hundreds of law enforcement agencies across the nation, and we are here to help if you have any questions. A detailed list of the requested data elements is provided below. Please note that we are requesting individual level data in digital form (excel, svs, vector PDF, etc.) from 2009-2016. Please provide codebooks/data dictionaries for all data requested.

We realize requests of this nature may incur a fee and would appreciate speaking with someone in your department about projected costs prior to the request being fulfilled. The list attached is a best case scenario list. All points may not be met on this list, however this is something we would be open to discussing further. After reviewing the attached file, please feel free to contact Measures for Justice with any questions or clarifications. Thank you.

Take care,
