Request #2035

PUBLIC

August 1, 2016

Under the California Public Records Act § 6250 et seq., and chapter 119, F.S., I and Reuters jointly request a copy of the settlement agreements for the following case: DANG VS. CITY OF GARDEN GROVE, ID number 8:10-CV-00338. The case was filed on 12/3/2009 and closed on 4/17/2012.

Ultimately I would like to know how much the city paid to settle the case and, separately, how much the city paid to litigate the case. By litigation costs I mean hiring outside counsel and outside experts. If there are any other documents that detail how much the city paid to settle and litigate the case, I would gladly accept them in lieu of the settlement agreement. If you would prefer to simply call me and tell me how much the city paid to settle and litigate the case, I would consider that as fulfilling my records request.

If there are any fees for searching or copying these records, please inform me if the cost will exceed $25. However, I would also like to request a waiver of all fees in that the disclosure of the requested information is in the public interest and will contribute significantly to the public’s understanding of how the city spends public money to settle lawsuits against their employees.

If you deny any or all of this request, please cite each specific exemption you feel justifies the refusal to release the information and notify me of the appeal procedures available to me under the law.

If you have any questions about any aspect of this request, please call me at 646-223-6997 or email me at michael.pell@thomosnreuters.com.

Thanks for your help
