Return to Field Permit Request
About the Return to Field Program
The Return to Field (RTF) program allows Garden Grove residents to trap feral cats in their neighborhood for spay/neuter and vaccination, after which the cats are returned to their outdoor location.
Program Requirements
Please read all 16 requirements before submitting your permit request.
- This program is for feral cats only, not for owned or pet cats.
- The program operates on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings only.
- You must call in between 12:01 AM and 8:30 AM on the day of trapping.
- If you call outside of those hours, you will be asked to release the cat.
- There are a limited number of spaces available each trapping day. Calling later may lower your chances of getting on the list.
- If you do not get on the list, you must release the cat immediately. You cannot hold it in the trap until the next trapping day, even if that day is tomorrow.
- You must use a Galvanized humane cat trap. A cat carrier, box, cage, or other containment device is not allowed.
- You are only allowed to set up one trap on your property.
- You are only allowed one cat per day on program days.
- You may only set up a trap at your personal residence, not any other location.
- If the cat is deemed sociable and adoptable during the vet exam, it will not be returned to the field and will be kept at the shelter for adoption.
- It is your responsibility to purchase, set up, and maintain the trap. Animal Care Services staff will not set it up for you or loan out traps.
- Cats are returned to the same address they were trapped at and will not be relocated.
- You are allowed to place food inside a cat trap for the purpose of this program.
- Feeding stray cats is not allowed and you can be cited for violating GGMC 6.04.150.
- Your permit expires on December 31 of the current year. You must hold a current, valid permit in order to trap.
