Community Invited to Virtual Forum on Updated Requirements for Accessory Dwelling Units

The City of Garden Grove will host a virtual community forum to discuss recent zoning regulations and building code requirements for constructing Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) and Junior Accessory Dwelling Units (JADUs), on Thursday, April 15, 2021, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., via Zoom. Residents and contractors are encouraged to attend. To register for the virtual ADU 101 Forum, visit ggcity.org/adu-101. The deadline to register is Wednesday, April 14, 2021.

An ADU is an attached or detached residential dwelling unit situated on the same parcel with a proposed or existing single-family or multi-family development, which provides complete independent living facilities for one or more persons. The unit also includes permanent provisions for living, sleeping, eating, cooking, and sanitation.

A JADU is a unit no more than 500 feet in size and contained entirely within a single-family residence. A JADU may contain separate or shared sanitation facilities.

At the March 23, 2021 regular meeting of the Garden Grove City Council, the City approved revisions for adoption of Ordinance No. 2919, pertaining to new regulations for ADUs and JADUs.
