Two, upcoming public hearings represent the final opportunities for the community to comment on the selection of a six-district electoral map, to be in effect for the 2016 elections. The public hearings take place on Tuesday, April 12 and April 26, at 6:30 p.m., during the regular meeting of the Garden Grove City Council. Both meetings will be held in the Council Chamber, at the Garden Grove Community Meeting Center, located at 11300 Stanford Avenue.

At the Tuesday, March 22, City Council meeting, Dave Ely, from Compass Demographics, provided an update on the district elections mapping process to the City Council, and introduced a number of proposed voting district maps. The proposed maps were based on community data and public input obtained through several public meetings held over the last five months. Two maps, submitted by members of the community, were also presented for the City Council’s consideration.

The City Council is anticipated to vote on an ordinance establishing boundaries for the six city districts at the April 26 public hearing. The ordinance would go to a second reading at the May 10, 2016 regular City Council meeting to confirm the new voting district map and implement the ordinance.

Spanish, Vietnamese, Korean, and Chinese interpreters will be present at both public hearings for language assistance.

The public is encouraged to attend upcoming City Council meetings and participate in the public hearings.
