New Open Government Site Furthers City Transparency

November 16, 2015 |
At the direction of the Garden Grove City Council, the City has created an Open Government portal, via the City’s website at www.ci.garden-grove.ca.us, where users can access public information about the City, including its finances, its officials, and other government resources. Through the creation of the Open Government site, the City can provide greater, more easily understandable, and completely anonymous, accessibility to City operations, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

“Transparency has been a top priority for myself and the entire City Council,” says Garden Grove Mayor Bao Nguyen. “Our efforts to increase transparency and information accessibility through new technology will remain a priority for our City.”

As part of this larger effort, the City has entered into an agreement with OpenGov, a private company that focuses on web-based financial transparency in local and state governments. The software enables the City to share its financial and budget information online in graphical form that is interactive, convenient, and user-friendly. Financial reports featured on the site include: sources of revenue; types and amounts of expenses; labor cost components; and tax revenue breakdown.

The City of Garden Grove is committed to upholding the principles of openness, accessibility, and transparency in the community, and strives to continue to offer its citizens easy access to important City information. Visit the City’s website, at www.ci.garden-grove.ca.us, to access the Open Government portal. Additional content and functionalities will be regularly added to the site.
