Garden Grove, Santa Ana Seek Community Input to Form Vision Plan for Willowick Site

August 15, 2018

The Cities of Garden Grove and Santa Ana are seeking public input to form a vision plan for the 101-acre Willowick Golf Course site. Starting this month, a series of three, monthly community workshops will take place on Thursdays, at 6:00 p.m., in Santa Ana. The workshops will engage discussions on several topics, including ideas, concepts, and community needs and goals. The vision plan will guide the preparation of development plans for the Willowick site.

The schedule for the community workshops are:

  • Thursday, August 30, 2018, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Goodwill Industries, 410 N. Fairview Street, Santa Ana 92703
  • Thursday, September 27, 2018, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Spurgeon Intermediate School, 2701 West 5th Street, Santa Ana 92703
  • Thursday, October 25, 2018, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Spurgeon Intermediate School, 2701 West 5th Street, Santa Ana 92703

Workshop #1 will focus on exploring ideas, needs and goals of the community.

Workshop #2 will discuss economic and market forces, and will include activities using maps and boards.

Workshop #3 will evaluate alternative concepts from previous workshops.

The Willowick Golf Course site is located at 3017 West 5th Street in Santa Ana. Owned by the City of Garden Grove, the property is currently an 18-hole golf course.

In 2017, the Cities of Garden Grove and Santa Ana held a joint study session to discuss the potential redevelopment of Willowick Golf Course. In 2018, the Garden Grove City Council approved an agreement with the City of Santa Ana for both cities to create a vision for future development involving community outreach.

The visioning process will help both cities better understand how Willowick can best serve and enrich the community for current and future generations, including determining what activities and land-uses are needed, and how it can keep pace with changing conditions and trends.

RSVP’s for the community workshops are not required. For more information, visit the Envision Willowick webpage or contact Mary Medrano, Garden Grove Planning Division, at (714) 741-5315.
