Crowds Come Out for Re:Imagine Garden Grove - Art in the Park

March 20, 2019

Saturday’s inaugural Re:Imagine Garden Grove – Art in the Park event, hosted by the City of Garden Grove and the Garden Grove Unified School District (GGUSD), brought crowds out to enjoy art-themed activities, and visit the GGUSD’s 41st annual First Impressions Student Art Gallery.

“Every day is a good day in Garden Grove, but it’s even better when it’s surrounded by art, and when we’re able to come together and celebrate our talented community of young artists,” said Mayor Steve Jones.

Village Green park was filled with temporary art installations, created by GGUSD’s elementary, intermediate, and high schools; do-it-yourself arts and crafts activities, curated by the Boys and Girls Clubs of Garden Grove, and local artists and businesses; and live painting.

A “Fairy Garden Pathway,” hand-made by the 48 Garden Grove elementary schools, led attendees from Civic Center Park, to the Garden Grove Community Meeting Center, to Village Green park. Temporarily installed in Village Green park near Euclid Street was a 50-foot-long lettering of “Re:Imagine Art in the Park,” designed by students from Garden Grove intermediate schools and high schools. At the northeast corner of Euclid Street and Stanford Avenue is a temporary diversity- and ecology-themed artwork created by Los Amigos and Santiago high schools.

At the event, the Garden Grove City Council and the GGUSD Board of Education joined the Garden Grove Community Foundation in presenting two, $1,000 checks to Los Amigos and Santiago high schools for their diversity- and ecology-themed artwork.

The ‘Art in the Park’ event is part of the City’s continuing efforts to brand Garden Grove’s downtown, while promoting the Re:Imagine Garden Grove mission of bringing more art to the community. The GGUSD partnership further reinforces and supports the District’s goal to continue elevating its arts presence and distinction within Orange County.
