On Saturday, February 15, 2025, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., or until supplies run out, the City of Garden Grove and Republic Services will host the annual Compost Giveaway, offering residents up to six bags of nutrient-rich compost for free. The event will be held at the Garden Grove Municipal Service Center, located at 13802 Newhope Street. The event is open to Garden Grove residents only. Proof of residency is required.

The distribution will be held in the center’s parking lot on a first-come, first-served basis. Vehicles must enter from A Better Way, accessible from Anabel Street, north of the Garden Grove Municipal Service Center. Due to the popularity of the free event, residents should expect long lines.

Bagged compost will be limited to six bags per household.

A second Compost Giveaway is scheduled for Saturday, April 12, 2025, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., at the Garden Grove Municipal Service Center.

The annual Compost Giveaway is one way the City of Garden Grove and Republic Services thank the community for participating in the state-mandated Organics Recycling program, enabling residents and businesses to recycle all food waste, food-soiled paper, and yard waste in their organics cart.
