Water Quality Notification
Last night, the City’s water system experienced a high volume of sand infiltration at a well site affecting the lower east side of Garden Grove. The City received reports of water quality issues involving murky and discolored water across areas north of Westminster Avenue, south of Garden Grove Boulevard, east of Brookhurst Street, and west of Lewis Street.
While sand and water discoloration pose no health hazards, City staff shut down the well and flushed the affected areas through fire hydrants. Water quality staff have continued to monitor and coordinate efforts and perform water testing, and determined that the City’s water quality has met all state and federal primary drinking health standards throughout this incident. As a result of shutting down the well, the City’s water system has been adjusted to ensure meeting daily water demands citywide.
If you are experiencing water quality issues, the Garden Grove Public Works Department asks that you flush your home/business through your hose spigot and faucet until the water clears. Run the first hose spigot at the front of your property until the water runs clear, and work your way to the next spigot or faucet through the back of your building. We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your cooperation.
