Jany Hyo Lee
Director of Human Resources

Jany joined the City of Garden Grove in 2001 as a recruiter (Personnel Analyst), then moved up the ranks as Senior Human Resources Analyst, Recruitment and Compensation Supervisor, Human Resources Manager, and Deputy Director of Human Resources. She brings more than 24 years of Human Resources experience to her current role as Director of Human Resources for the City of Garden Grove.

As director, Jany oversees the day-to-day operations of Garden Grove’s full service Human Resources Department. She also performs various administrative personnel responsibilities such as employee and labor relations.

Jany is a member of the NetKAL Fellowship Program (Network of Korean American Leaders), organized by the Center for Asian Pacific Leadership at the University of Southern California. She has held various officer positions within the Orange County Human Resources Consortium (OC-HRC) and has completed the CALPERLA Labor Relations Academy courses.

With a strong commitment to the city, Jany serves as a bridge between the Korean–American and other communities in Orange County to accomplish many projects. These include obtaining a resolution from the Garden Grove City Council designating a “Korean Business District” on Garden Grove Boulevard, between Beach Boulevard and Brookhurst Boulevard; obtaining a resolution in support of US Korea Free Trade Agreement from the County Board of Supervisors; and organizing the first joint Korean-American Chamber and Vietnamese Chamber Small Business Administration Loan Fair in Garden Grove. She has also led many delegations of elected officials to Korea for cultural understanding and business advancement.

Jany’s keen interest in current affairs issues – as well as her extensive contacts with community organizations and leaders – contributed to her many years of public relations activities. Having served on numerous boards, Jany was President of the Korean American Coalition Orange County, and KOWIN (Korean Overseas Women in Network). She is also a founding member of Korean American Day.
