Community Invited to Arbor Day Tree Planting Ceremony
The City of Garden Grove’s Public Works Department invites the community to attend the Arbor Day Tree Planting Ceremony on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at 5:00 p.m., at West Haven Park, located at 12252 West Street. The free event will feature the planting of a Coast Live Oak tree, themed giveaways, activities, and treats.
Event activities include leaf cutouts for children to decorate and glue to a giant tree display, planting of wildflower seed bombs into paper pots with soil, and more. A limited amount of free compost will also be available.
Known for its unique branching pattern and live canopy coverage, the Coast Live Oak is a drought-tolerant tree that can grow up to 100 feet in height. Its large branches and shade coverage serves as a habitat for wildlife, producing acorns for a variety of birds and squirrels.
In 2023, the City proclaimed October 19 as Arbor Day in Garden Grove. A tree planting ceremony was held at Garden Grove Park and attended by City officials, media, and over 50 Garden Grove Unified School District students and teachers. In December 2023, the City was recognized as a 2023 Tree City USA from the National Arbor Day Foundation for its commitment to maintain and enhance the City’s urban forest.
